OKLAHOMA CITY – On Monday, January 29, St. Anthony Hospital celebrated the dedication of the Saints Heart & Vascular Institute’s newest patient care area. The renovation of its fourth floor, south wing, was made possible by a one million dollar gift from a foundation established by Dr. S. K. Bhatia, who served as a cardiologist at the hospital for 43 years until his passing in 2017, and his late wife, Dr. Mira Bhatia. The S. K. & Mira Bhatia Foundation’s donation is one of the largest donations received by the St. Anthony Foundation since its inception in 1963.
“During his 43 years at St. Anthony, Dr. Bhatia gave our organization a gift of his time and service through his leadership and problem solving,” stated Joe Hodges, SSM Health Care of Oklahoma Regional President. “His generosity did not end with his passing, as his gift to the Saints Heart & Vascular Institute will continue his vision of providing exceptional, compassionate heart care for our patients in a new, state-of the-art environment.”
“We are pleased to honor our parents, S.K. and Mira Bhatia, both physicians, who were tirelessly dedicated to serving the medical needs of Oklahoma’s residents, ” stated Vineet Bhatia on behalf of the Bhatia Family. “My father had the opportunity to share with St. Anthony his vision for this unit, and we find it fitting that we are all gathered together here, one year after his passing, to honor our father and mother at a dedication within the hospital that meant so much to both of them.”
The new S. K. & Mira Bhatia Heart & Vascular Unit features upgraded finishes in the patient rooms and bathrooms to create an uplifting, light filled space conducive to healing. Three patient suites within the patient care unit include ample room for family and guests to visit and spend the night, if desired. Additional attention has been given to bright waiting areas, nourishment areas and the public corridors. A modern nurses’ station provides more work spaces for nurses and physicians.
