Who is SSM Health?
SSM Health is a Catholic, not-for-profit health system serving the comprehensive health needs of communities across the Midwest through a robust fully integrated health care delivery system. What does "SSM" stand for?
SSM Health represents an incredible heritage of healing that began in 1872 in St. Louis by a congregation of nuns formerly known as the Sisters of St. Mary. In the late 1880s, several sisters left St. Louis and formed a separate congregation in Maryville, MO. In the late 1980s, the two congregations reunited to form the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. The “SSM” in our system’s name does not formally stand for a longer name, but pays tribute to those early sisters who provided loving care for people who were sick.
How long has SSM Health been in Oklahoma?
Established in 1898, SSM Health has been in Oklahoma for more than 123 years. In fact, we were the first hospital in Oklahoma.
